In 2023, our humanitarian response evolved to address not only food and shelter needs but also critical water access challenges affecting Internally Displaced Persons. Prolonged displacement and limited infrastructure created urgent demand for sustainable water solutions alongside continued emergency relief support.
During 2023, we delivered multi-sector humanitarian assistance to 1,976 displaced households in Southern Shan State, Myanmar. Food security support included the distribution of 530 sacks of rice and 875 liters of cooking oil to help families meet their daily nutritional needs. Shelter assistance was expanded by providing 164 tarpaulin sheets for emergency shelter construction and temporary lined water reservoirs to improve safe water storage.
A major milestone in 2023 was the installation of one diesel engine and the provision of two barrels of diesel fuel to pump water for IDP communities. This intervention significantly improved access to water for domestic use and reduced the burden on families, particularly women and children. To enhance protection during the rainy season, 400 raincoats were distributed, while 297 blankets were provided to vulnerable households. Emergency medical supplies and essential medications were also delivered to address urgent health needs and reduce preventable illness within displacement sites.
This integrated humanitarian response strengthened food security, access to water, shelter protection, and healthcare support for displaced communities.
